TSO Tour Diary 2004 - Week 3

by Chris Caffery

November 25th to December 1st

November 25th - Happy Thanksgiving from downtown Baghdad...

Or Hartford...can't really tell!!!

I woke up and got off of my tour bus and the first thing I see is a demolished building!

There usually is not too much goin on Thanksgiving Day so I did not need the nicest place in the world...but this place is definately a work in progress!

I have not written in a couple of days because my high speed and phone lines crapped out in Richmond!

The Richmond show was fun. That day James, Alex and I went to the Indian buffet for lunch. I was a bit dizzy from my headaches, but I needed to get to the gym that morning. Lunch was very good...we were staying in the same hotel that night so I did not have to tear down my Christmas lights!

Richmond was the first show that we used the full arena show. When you see it you will understand. The arena show is much larger than the theatre show. There are lights that hang out over the audience...it looks like a giant amphitheatre. Really cool! We were having a lot of fun onstage. For some reason I got the giggles...everything just seemed frickin' funny. Wearin' a tux and playin Christmas music was all of a sudden really humorous! The autograph line was very friendly...not too long...met some very nice people!

I got some much needed sleep and checked out of my room at 2PM on Wed. for the drive to Hampton. I forgot my frickin microphone for my studio in the room...it is being sent to me.

Stevie, James and I were listening to Humble Pie and actually feeling like we were on a big rock tour on the ride to Hampton...lots of fun!

When we arrived I went to Wal Mart with Mr. Hicks....speaking of Hicks...have you been in Wal Mart lately!

I bought some hunting supplies and Brian got Christmas lights...we made it back just in time for soundcheck. No big news there...we did get a visit from Allie Sheridan and her new baby...she was so cute and tiny!!! The baby too! Allie did not look like she had a kid at all!

Lots of military folks in the crowd...I really feel for them this time of the year...so far away from their loved ones in danger.

The show was great! Kinda funny again...Stevie could not find his tux jacket and was a little late for "This Christmas Day!" I found a new routine for my crowd wandering...I almost did not make it back in time! The band was very tight tonite...Jen sang amazing!

I announced that this was our first international TSO tour...yup...we were in Virginia today and in Turkey tomorrow!!! Yes, they do get worse!!!

The autograph line was VERY long...the longest so far. Everyone has the day off today so noone minded the wait. Lots of Faces and Savatage CD's! A few Music Man CD's too! The radio stations are all adding my Christmas songs...I am so happy about that!

Afterwards we hit the bus and had a really fun ride north. I sang my new song for the guys...went over well...it is called "Come With Me". Interpret however you please!

We then wrote a song together. A really funny AC/DC like tune called "Put The Lotion On The Dog". Interpret however you please! It came from a stumble that Brian made about a line in Silence of The Lambs...instead of put the lotion in the basket he was kinda buzzed and said "Put the Lotion on the Dog"...very funny to us and we wrote the song!

Skippy and Stevie jumped out to see family in New York...I decided to sleep and try to rest my head. It is feeling a little better, I am still very dizzy...but that is nothing new!

I am going to watch some football...we have a band Thanksgiving dinner at 4PM...

I want to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving and thank you for all of the support and friendship here once more! The tour is just beginning and I know the nevt 5 weeks are going to be so much fun!

If I have seen you...thanks...if I am going to...BEWARE!

Gobble, gobble!!!

Chris

November 26th - BTW...

Never....ever....drink straight vodka and do shots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

November 28th - Hartford...Matinees...Headaches!

Hi!

No...the shows were not headaches...but I do have one! OUCH...seems I took a small spill...or lets just say that the hotel moved into my head Thursday night. Yup...this was kinda the last thing I needed....another concussion! I feel like Steve Frickin Young here!

I definitely was very dizzy all day. Joy was there with her daughter to help with the fliers and bring me some CD’s. I was brought a Happy Meal by Randi and Sarah Morf. I few hours later I went to soundcheck, I was still in a fog. I returned to the hotel for a shower and got back for the show. It was a rather festive performance. 6,500 people in a new city! I ran up into the crowd and the lights never found me. I did make it back onstage on time. REALLY long autograph line…Lots of Faces CD’s…someone gave me a funny penguin hat. Stevie and I went out after the show and closed the bar we were in on Thanksgiving. Fun night. I actually wound up with a diet coke in the end...too much Thanksgiving!!! We were staying til the morning. I decided to grab my stuff and sleep on the bus…I woke up in Providence in a total fog. Matinee show was fun….the snow did not work at first, I had a guitar problem…Skippy had some weird notes…We all were not perfect. I was trying to keep my balance. I have a bit of a black eye from my fall….black knee…black leg….black shoulder! We made it through the show. Good gig, but the crowd was definitely a matinee crowd! I went to take a nap and await my brother’s arrival. He showed up at about 7PM…I finally got to give him a CD. He plays in a cover band in this area called The Rock. The night show was great. Amazing crowd. I am still tired, but we made it through. Autograph line was harmless…lots of familiar Faces and Faces CD’s! I had a radio interview with the station that put the show on WHJY. The DJ Jim had replaced the late Dr. Metal. He passed away in the Providence fire from last year. He loves the Faces Cd and was going to play The Fall on his show. I also just got off the air wirh Torch at Rock in a Hard place in Fargo. They are having their Pisses Me Off contest. Instead of naming what you were thankful for this. Thanksgiving….you have to tell them what Pisses you off!!!! Great people, Lots of fun! He played Evil Is As Evil Does too!!! Tomorrow is our first show in New Hampshire…Should be fun…5,000 tix sold! I need sleep! Talk to you tomorrow!

(written last night)

Now...I sit watching football and deciding whether or not I can handle a trip to the gym...

Toronto and another day off tomorrow...I can seriously say that I need this one!!!!!

Peace!

Chris

November 29th - Sleeping in Toronto!

Well....trying to anyway...

We got in around noon...did not sleep much before then. I had a radio interview in Wilkes-Barre at 8:15 and another here in Toronto at 10:10AM.

I got in my room and had a few hours of business mail to deal with. I just actually woke myself up because I was waiting for some calls that never arrived....WHY? The frickin' phone was unplugged!

So...I am awake, but could sleep all night. I do have a radio call in to make by 8PM then a meeting with Betty from Metal Queen Mgt...Then it should be more sleep. Which, by the way is going to be a short rest because I have a TV appearance in the morning with a 6:15 lobby call. Then I have interviews for my Canadian Record label with "Faces" beginning at 4PM 'til show time...

I sould have some European Tour info posted by the end of the week. There will not be any US warm up dates. I am planning a US tour sometime after I return. The CD will be out by then and it will be much easier to book dates if I have a good Euro run and some solid sales and airplay to report here...

No rest for the Red Neck!

Peace!

chris

December 1st - Some Sleep In Buffalo...

How's it goin' eh?

Toronto was a lot of fun eh? I was so frickin' busy eh. I think I did a total of 10 TV, radio or print interviews, a TV performance and the show in a 36 hour period.

Not much of a day off eh?

I want to thank Betty from Metal Queen Management for her help with some press and street team work...also Leigh from PHD for the interviews.

Unfortunately I do not have any wild stories to tell. Strange eh? We woke up at 6AM to do the TV show Canada AM...we have done this every year. Nice people...I believe we taped 6 songs.

Then I had a few hours once we returned to the hotel...I slept a little and went to the gym...did some business and thought I had time to shop...nope...got grabbed in the lobby for a TV interview...

So...I finished and walked to the ACC and awaited more interviews. Good stuff. I love the Canadians!

Next thing you know it is show time. The Silence of the Lambs Musical is a huge hit on this tour...

"Put the Fuckin' lotion in the basket!!!" is our favorite song...WAY too funny!

The show was fun eh. We played for over 5,000 people this year. Thanks for the support Canada!

I had fun talking to this crowd and even snuck an Oh Canada into the intro of the show.

All in all it was a good day eh? We ended up on the bus waiting to leave, entertained by a rather interesting friend of Skippy's. The bus ride was highlighted by Chris Rock's new HBO special. This guy is just frickin' funny eh!?

We landed in Buffalo around 3AM...I headed to the hotel, checked the site and my mail and crashed. I was woken up by a phone call...good friend so I did not mind...I wanted to check in before I went back to sleep!

I may just do nothing but go to the gym before our 3PM lobby call...rehearsing my songs with an acoustic everyday...just starting to get used to playin' and singing...not that difficult if I just don't think about the guitar...should be fun and challenging...the live adrenaline will really help!

Lots of Faces CD's out here on the road...pretty cool considering it is not out yet in the US!!!!

Anchor Bar wings tonite...yum!

Thanks Canada...see ya next time...
